Ron's work experience includes working as a manger for major garage groups Page Motors Ltd (Epsom) and Henry Streeter Ltd (Croydon). He has also held Directorships including the family’s electrical contracting and retail business, ELP Holdings; Thermtec Ltd ( now part of Heatrae Sadia) and Windfern Ltd (property management) as well as being Group Operations Manager for Moorpay PLC.
In 1976 Ron was asked to help form the first national charity for stammerers, The Association For Stammerers. He was appointed Chairman of the charity and successfully raised the funds required to employ a full time director and open its first office. The charity now renamed the British Stammerers Association has a team of staff and continues to help many thousands of stammerers.In 1982 Ron teamed up with a friend to invent and market a speech aid to help people with a stammer. The aid called “Hector Speech Aid” took three years to develop and was patented in the UK and USA. Hector gained widespread publicity including appearances on BBC and ITV and was then franchised out to two manufacturers in aids for the disabled both in the UK and overseas.
Ron has been involved with a variety of charities. As trustee to the rape crisis charity the Susan Lambert Trust (formally SEVA) Ron worked closely with the Chair to raise funds from the Department of Health to employ their first paid staff.
